    Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday 02 January 2011: The capital city will host the State ‘Keralotsavam’ from today to January 5 at 13 venues. Five thousand athletes and artistes will participate in 80 events over the four days, Ports and Youth Affairs Minister V Surendran Pillai said here.

    The venues for the arts competitions are, Sanskrit College, Panchayat Association Hall, SMV School, Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan and Students’ Centre.

    The sports competitions will be held at Central Stadium, Sree Moolam Club, Salim Brothers Ground at Peroorkada, Corporation Stadium at Poojappura, swimming pool at Karakulam, Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, University Stadium and the Vellayani Agricultural College stadium.

    Apart from the regular athletics and arts events, ‘Keralotsavam’ will feature a number of competitions with a rustic touch - sowing, climbing coconut palms, thatching and ploughing, to name a few.

    “Competitions for selecting athletes for the state-level festival were held in 815 grama panchayats, 47 municipalities and all five Corporations. The winners in the state-level fest (18 of the events feature in the national fest) will attend the national-level festival beginning in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on January 12,” the Minister said.
